Volunteer-led charity Blackdog Outdoors was our Wellbeing Champion at the inaugural South Pennines Park awards, attended by over 100 people.
Blackdog Outdoors encourages and supports people in spending time in nature, to improve mental and physical wellbeing.
It provides outdoor recreational activities, such as walking and paddle sports, that are delivered by qualified outdoor professionals, supported by mental health first aiders, and free to attend by those affected by poor mental health.
Andrew Higson, Director of Blackdog Outdoors, said: “This award recognises our effort and shows us as an industry leading organisation. We are really proud of the recognition we have received today.
“We only started five years ago and we are managed by volunteers. I have a full-time job as well as this – and a very understanding wife!
In the future, we hope to grow more, so we can support more people. The main challenge is securing funding, as most of what we do is self-funded.”
