The South Pennines Park has two clear aims:

To champion The South Pennines Park.
To connect people to nature.

We believe the best way to achieve this is through a truly inclusive, nature-centred and people-led effort; one that listens and gives a voice to all of those who live, work and visit this special place.

As Pennine Prospects, we raised £15m for major landscape projects over 15 years, generating a further £45m+ of investment in the area. Now as the South Pennines  , we’re putting our proven track record of securing funding and delivering innovative community-led projects to good use. We’re moving into a new era, with a new name together with fresh structures and approaches to build the South Pennines Park’s resilience, sustainability and capacity.

We want everyone invested in the South Pennines Park – neighbours, visitors, members, stakeholders, partners – to sign up to our Partnership in order to help us shape our future, and make sure that future generations are able to shape theirs.

A PLAN TO SUSTAIN OUR SOUTH PENNINE HERITAGE

Below you can view and download a copy of the new draft Heritage Strategy for the South Pennines and a Consultation Questionnaire.

The strategy is still at an early stage, and we want your views on this important document. Our consultation includes a set of specific questions to which we would welcome your response. And you can also send us additional ideas and material. Click here to download the draft strategy document.

Our aim is that the Heritage Strategy will help to inspire people to look after the heritage of the South Pennines. We hope the strategy, which highlights the cultural, natural and built heritage of these beautiful hills and valleys, will raise the profile of the area, and the need to protect it for future generations. It is a strategy to help conserve and manage the South Pennines and also a call to arms for people to value their local environment.

The strategy sets out a framework for the management of South Pennines Heritage. It summarises the historic and cultural environment of the South Pennines, highlights the key issues that affect the condition of its historic features and offers some broad objectives for their management.
